The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help identifying the suspects in an identity theft investigation and Charles County Crime Solvers is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest or indictment.

On or about April 7, one of the suspects used a counterfeit Maryland driver’s license in the name of Matthew Jones of Crofton to open credit card accounts at retailers in Charles and Prince George’s counties, including Lowes, Home Depot, Kay Jewelers, Target, Office Depot and Circuit City. The two suspects used the accounts within the next three days to make purchases in La Plata, Waldorf, Clinton, Upper Marlboro, Hyattsville, Marlow Heights and Lanham. They were operating a dark late-model GMC or Chevrolet Suburban truck and purchased about $20,000 worth of electronics, jewelry, appliances, tools and lawn care equipment.

The Sheriff’s Office has posted on its Web site, www.ccso.us, photographs of the suspects obtained from surveillance cameras at the businesses. Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact Det. R. Cadrette at 301-609-6507 or Charles County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. Crime Solvers is offering of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment and all callers remain anonymous.
