At 11 p.m.  Jan. 19, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Ripley Road near Poorhouse Road in La Plata for the report of a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival officers discovered a Gold Jeep Cherokee had crashed into a telephone pole, knocking it over, and wires were on the road. The driver had fled the scene but Officer J. Clagett found a 15-year-old Indian Head boy walking on Poorhouse Road toward Pisgah and detained him.

Investigation revealed the boy stole the vehicle from Prince George’s County. He lost control of it on Ripley Road and crashed into the pole but was not injured.

The boy was charged as a juvenile with theft of a motor vehicle, theft valued at more than $500, destruction of property and driving without a license.

He was transported to Cheltenham Youth Facility.
