Located at the tip of the Dowell Peninsula north of Solomons, a bronze statue stands “On Watch” paying silent homage to the men and women who served so bravely during World War Two. Dedicated in August during the Calvert Marine Museum’s Cradle of Invasion event, the statue by Antonio Tobias Mendez marks the location of the first amphibious training base in America. It is surrounded by Veteran’s Plaza, a brick base holding the engraved names of men and women who served in WWII.

In response to the strong demand for an opportunity to participate in the Veteran’s Plaza once it was completed, we have reopened the sale of bricks for a limited time. The cost of each memorial brick is $100. Bricks may be purchased in memory or in honor of individuals who served during WWII. This is a limited time offer that will end March 31, 2008. Bricks will be installed over the summer of 2008 and purchasers will be notified when they are available for viewing.

If you would like to order a memorial brick, you may download the application from the county’s web site, http://www.co.cal.md.us , fill it in, and mail it with your check to:
