Recognition for Charles County Businesses Who Refuse Alcohol to Minors
La Plata, Charles County - 11/11/2007
|
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office and the Charles County Board of License Commissioners work closely to strictly enforce the laws pertaining to liquor licenses in Charles County. Together, they announce a new effort to recognize businesses who comply with alcohol regulations. For the past two years, the Sheriff’s Office has conducted compliance checks at local businesses. The compliance checks are undercover operations conducted randomly or when a complaint is made regarding the sale of alcohol to minors. During the controlled operation, an underage representative of the Sheriff’s Office attempts to buy alcohol at a business. If the business refuses the sale, they pass. If not, the Sheriff’s Office forwards a report to the Board of License Commissioners, who schedules a hearing. Last year, 70 percent of the tested businesses refused to sell alcoholic beverages to the minor and so far this year, 68 percent of businesses have passed the test. The Sheriff’s Office and the Board of License Commissioners attribute this success to the diligence of the license holders and their employees. By continuing and increasing their efforts, the Sheriff’s Office and the Board hope to reduce the consequences and sometimes tragic incidents that result when minors consume or possess alcohol. The Sheriff’s Office and the Board recognize the businesses that have successfully passed the compliance checks in the past two years: * Denotes a recheck for a licensed establishment which had a previous violation related to underage sales.
