Woman Trampled at Softball Game
GREAT MILLS - 10/3/2007
A 22-year-old woman was flown from Chancellor’s Run Park to Baltimore Shock Trauma after being injured by a man at a co-ed softball game on Tuesday evening. The woman, who reportedly had sustained a neck injury in the past, was trampled by a man during the game at approximately 7:30 p.m. Due to her loss of consciousness after the injury, volunteer medical personnel called for a helicopter transport. Paramedics treated the woman on the scene, while volunteer firefighters from Bay District prepared the landing site. Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 6 was dispatched out of Centreville at 7:45 p.m., and it arrived at the park in Great Mills at 8:15 p.m. The two closer MSP rescue helicopters that work St. Mary’s County were busy responding to other emergencies at the time. Trooper 7, based out of St. Mary’s County Airport, Hollywood, was busy transporting a patient from a crash with an overturned vehicle near Leonardtown at the time. Trooper 2, based out of Forestville, was in route to pick up crash victim in Calvert County. The region is also served by U.S. Park Police helicopters, who maintain three helicopters at the "Eagles Nest" at Anacostia Park in Washington; Eagle 1, 2 and 3. See slideshow below for more images from the scene. |
