Trooper Struck While Busting Man with Pot on Head

At 7:35 p.m. Aug. 25, Maryland State Police Sgt. Spaulding was working security at Maryland International Raceway when he observed a man become disorderly and start yelling obscenities.

Assistance was requested and TFC Lashley responded to the scene.

When Sgt. Spaulding approached the subject, James Andrew Hight, 23 of Brandywine, he observed a marijuana cigarette behind his right ear. Hight became combative and struck Sgt. Spaulding.

He was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending a bond review. He was charged with second-degree Assault, Possession of Marijuana, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct.
