Shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday, volunteer medical responders were dispatched for a man reported to be unconscious in a telephone booth on Shangri La Drive in Lexington Park.

Upon contact with the man, Joshua M. Bragalone, of no fixed address, he regained consciousness and then became combative with medical personnel.

A St. Mary’s Sheriff Deputy on the scene arrested Bragalone for being disorderly and intoxicated to the point he was a danger to himself and others.

Minutes later, the handcuffs were removed by the Deputy to allow for for medical treatment by Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad, and at that time Bragalone fled on foot.

A short chase ensued and the suspect was apprehended. He was charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest.

A Preliminary Breath Test taken at the Detention Center by Correctional Officer Staff revealed a .39 BAC.

St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Lt. Dan. Alioto said the test is standard procedure in this situation.

“It first appeared to be a person in medical distress, and all of the sudden it went from a medical scene to a crime when he became combative with medical personnel,” Alioto told The Bay Net Wednesday night.

“Keep in mind that the people who responded to this first are volunteers, who do a fantastic job, and are often taken for granted,” Alioto said. “We can’t have them getting assaulted.”
