Purse Snatching; Mysterious Dead Dog, More Calvert Reports

At 10:34 p.m. July 8, DFC Shawn Morder responded to a home on Cincinnati Ave in North Beach for a robbery report. The victim advised that she parked in her driveway and exited her car that evening at 10:20 p.m. and was walking toward her house when an unknown suspect grabbed her purse and ran. The purse was later located in the street, nothing appeared to be missing. Anyone with information is asked to contact DFC Shawn Morder at 410-535-2800. Dog Dead The water bowl had been knocked over and it appears the animal may have died from lack of water and the excessive heat, police say. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dep. Burggraff at 410-535-2800. Burglary Investigation revealed a juvenile male suspect, 17 of Chesapeake Beach, who admitted his involvement and was charged on a youth report with burglary. The juvenile advised that he sold the ATV to an unknown person. He was detained in a juvenile detention facility pending his initial court appearance. Theft Window Bashed Thefts from Vehicles Another victim on 29th Street also reported her unlocked vehicle had been entered overnight and two pair of designer sunglasses, valued at $700, had been stolen. Dep. Wendland is also handling this investigation. A third victim on Dayton Ave in North Beach reported to Dep. Wendland that $800 worth of items, a cell phone, a Sony bazooka tube and amplifier and an Ugly Stick fishing rod had all been stolen from his unlocked vehicle during the same time frame. Two victims on Chesapeake Lighthouse Drive in North Beach reported to Cpl. James Wahlgren that their vehicles had been broken into over night between 8:00 p.m. on July 9 and 7:00 a.m. the following morning. One of the vehicles had been unlocked, the other had been locked but the windows were left open a few inches. The stolen items, three speakers, a Pioneer audio amp and one pair of Oakley sunglasses, totaled $860 in value. Cpl. Wahlgren will continue the investigation. Another victim on 2nd Street in North Beach advised Cpl. Wahlgren that her unlocked vehicle was entered overnight in the same time period and a $300 camera was taken. Possession of Marijuana DFC Marty McCarroll was on routine patrol on July 10 at 10:56 a.m. in the area of Md. Rt. 4 and Md. Rt. 260 in Dunkirk and made contact with the driver of a vehicle being operated with faulty equipment. The driver, later identified as Alvis L. Vines, 37 of Washington, D.C., initially gave a false identity to DFC McCarroll. After some investigation, McCarroll determined the driver’s true identity and a search incident to arrest revealed suspected marijuana. Vines was arrested and charged with false statement, assuming a false identity to avoid apprehension or prosecution for a crime, possession of marijuana, and numerous traffic violations. DFC Eric Basham was on routine patrol near the Chesapeake Station shopping center on July 11 at 5:13 p.m. He observed a vehicle with an expired registration tag. The driver, later identified as Kevin R. Mason, 18 of Owings, was found to be in possession of marijuana. A search incident to arrest also revealed a black-handled sword. Mason was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a concealed deadly weapon and traffic violations. |
