Used Firework Ignites Shed, Vehicle Fire
ST. JAMES - 7/23/2007
|
At 7:43 a.m. Sunday morning, volunteer firefighters battled a fire that consumed a shed, vehicle and the surrounding brush at a residence on Sandy’s Way in St. James. Deputy Chief State Fire Marshal Jason Mowbray reports the fire was accidental in nature, caused by a discarded firework that later kindled dry vegetation near the shed. The shed and a Ford Explorer were well-involved when firefighters arrived and both were lost. Volunteer firefighters knocked the flames within 20 minutes. The total damage was estimated at $7,000. Thirty firefighters from Bay District, Ridge, 2nd district, Hollywood and 7th district responded, as well as the Maryland Department of Forestry. |
