At 12:15 p.m. Thursday local police and rescue personnel were alerted to a reported plane crash at St. Mary’s Airport. Many area residents witnessed a large plume of smoke shortly after the crash.

When firefighters and police arrived, the plane was on fire but the three reported occupants had already escaped. It appears the place crashed while attempting to land.

Each occupant refused medical treatment.

Rescue personnel were told the plane was a civilian aircraft that was approved for a St. Mary's destination.

At 12:50 p.m., however, emergency responders were informed the plane is a military plane, and the contents may be classified information. Responders were told not to enter the plane until military personal arrive and NTSB investigators arrive on the scene.

No one has been reported injured.
