Update 10am 9/7:

On September 6, 2013 at approximately 8:31 a.m. members of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to the area of Three Notch Road and Harpers Corner Road in Mechanicsville for the reported motor vehicle collision.  Upon arriving on the scene, Deputies found a Nissan and Mitsubishi crashed in the center of the roadway.  The operator of the Nissan had to be extricated from the vehicle by fire department personnel and was found to have serious life threatening injuries.  The request for reconstruction was made and Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team Members responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Christopher Naoki Liggins, 26 of Waldorf was operating a 1995 Nissan 240SX southbound on Route 235 in the area of Harpers Corner Road.   Liggins lost control of the vehicle causing it to skid across the center grass median into the northbound lanes of Route 235.  Liggins vehicle entered the path of a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, being operated by Jeremy Patrick Clark, 24 of LaPlata, where it was struck on the driver’s side.  Liggins sustained life threatening injuries and was flown from the scene to Washington Hospital Center by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7.  Clark did not complain of any injuries and signed a refusal for medical treatment on the scene.

During the course of the investigation witnesses advised Liggins vehicle had been involved in some sort of altercation/road rage incident with a silver Toyota pickup truck which was bearing a Maryland agricultural registration plate.  The witnesses advised the truck had cut off Liggins vehicle just prior to him losing control and crossing the grass median.  The Toyota pickup truck continued southbound on Three Notch Road and turned left on Route 6 toward Huntersville.   At this time alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors in the collision; however speed does appear to be a factor.

Anyone who can provide further information on the Toyota Pickup or its operator, as well as any other person who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Corporal Brian Connelly # 151 of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office at (301)475-4200 Ext. 9010. This crash remains under investigation.

Update 11:40am:

Fire and EMS from Mechanicsville, Charles County and the St. Mary’s Advance Life Support Unit were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident on the northbound side of Three Notch Road south of the Point Lookout Road intersection at 8:32 a.m. Friday.

Arriving first responders found a silver Mitsubishi had crashed into the driver side of a black Nissan. The Mitsubishi was partially inside the Nissan.

The force of the collision sent the driver of the Nissan to the passenger side of the car.

Police shut down northbound Three Notch at Maryland Route 6 with northbound traffic being redirected up Rt. 6. Those vehicles stuck behind the crash scene were eventually redirected to a turn around to clear the remainder of the roadway.
