President George Bush is scheduled today to visit the Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training at the Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship in Piney Point.

The base was put on lockdown from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today for the presidential visit, a receptionist confirmed.

The trip was not announced in advance, and his purpose or topic of discussion is not known. Bush cancelled a trip to the school this time last year, due to the flooding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

The Paul Hall Center provides training and coursework required by the U.S. Coast Guard and other training for non-military merchant marines. The base offers the most U.S. Coast Guard-approved courses of any seafarer’s school in the country.
