St. Mary's City Announces New Facilities/Grounds Director

Joe Kangas has accepted the position of Director of Facilities & Grounds at Historic St. Mary’s City (HSMC).  

With 28 years in the construction industry, Kangas will bring a wealth of building, business, and landscape management experience to HSMC. He is a highly skilled craftsman with significant background in preservation carpentry and other traditional skills. He holds a Master Gardener Certification and servedas an apprenticeship at the National Arboretum, focusing on the craft of caring for English boxwoods. He has lived and worked in St. Mary’s County most of his life, most recently as the owner of Kangas Home Improvements in Ridge.

Announcing his appointment, HSMC Executive Director, Regina Faden, Ph.D. commented, “HSMC is fortunate to engage Joe’s unique blend of skills in traditional craft and construction as well as facilities and landscape management.” Kangas’ tenure at the museum will begin on July 1.
