Investigators Call Lusby House Fire Arson
Lusby, MD - 3/18/2013
By Marty Madden
A one-story home in Lusby sustained damage Sunday, March 17 in a mid-afternoon fire that investigators report was deliberately set.
According to Dfm. Jeff Frye of the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, 45 volunteer firefighters from Solomons, St. Leonard, Bay District and Hollywood were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze on Marina Overlook Drive around 3:30 p.m. Crews had the flames under control in 30 minutes. One firefighter sustained burns to the ears. The firefighter was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital, treated and released. No other injuries were reported.
The fire was discovered by a neighbor. Frye’s investigation determined the blaze originated in the living room and the cause was “incendiary.” The damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $100,000.
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Frye stated. Anyone who has additional information is asked to contact the State Fire Marshal’s Southern Region Office at 443-550-6820.
