Commissioners Tour Mobile Career Center
Leonardtown, MD - 2/12/2013
Community resource on wheels to make stops in County
The Board of County Commissioners spent part of their regular business meeting touring the JobSource Mobile Career Center, which made a stop at the Government Center in Leonardtown.
Ruthy Davis, Director of Regional Workforce and Business Development for the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, gave the commissioners a first-hand look at the mobile facility. The Southern Maryland Workforce Investment Board, an initiative of the Tri-County Council, offers workforce development services through Southern Maryland JobSource.
“During these times of economic uncertainty it is vital for citizens and business to be aware of the assistance available to them at no charge,” said Davis. “These are services tailored to individuals who may become unemployed or underemployed as well as businesses struggling to find skilled employees.”
The 38 foot converted RV is a self-contained vehicle equipped with state of the art telecommunications equipment capable of being deployed inside or outside of the vehicle. Included are 11 computer workstations, smart board instructional technology, satellite internet access, exterior audio visual and broadcasting capabilities, state of the art workforce applications and connectivity for wireless mobile devices.
“This mobile center is a wonderful resource for those who may be looking for work,” said Commissioner President Jack Russell. “It’s amazing how this vehicle can bring everything one would need for a successful job search right into any community in the county.”
The Mobile Career Center is scheduled to make stops at all three county libraries:
- February 12 & 19 at Leonardtown Library, from 1 – 4 p.m.
- February 15 at Lexington Park Library, from 1 – 4 p.m.
- February 21 at Charlotte Hall Library, from 9:30 a.m. – noon
