On Tuesday December 18 at 4:24 p.m. a marked Maryland State Police cruiser, T-31, assigned to the Leonardtown Barrack was involved in a motor vehicle collision. The operator of T-31 was Tfc. Jeffery Gibson, a five year veteran of the State Police. Tfc. Gibson was traveling northbound on MD Rt. 235, north of Exploration Drive in LexingtonPark. He was responding to an emergency call with his emergency lights and siren activated.
A 2001 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck, operated by Christopher Munson of Lusby, turned left at the cross over from south bound Rt. 235 in front of Quality Transfer and Storage. Munson was attempting to drive into the lot south of Quality Transfer and Storage when he drove into the path of Tfc. Gibson’s police vehicle and was struck on the passenger side of his truck.
Tfc. Gibson had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department. He was flown by Trooper 7 to the Prince George’s Hospital Center where he was treated and released. Munson was able to exit his vehicle on his own and he did not seek medical treatment at the scene.
