On August 4th, 2012 members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, Department of Natural Resources Police, the Prince George’s County Police, Maryland National Guard and the Calvert County Optimist Club will be participating in the 2nd Annual Back to School Shop with a Cop event.

Police officers will be picking up children and taking them to Lord Calvert Bowl bowling alley for some friendly competition with the officers.  While the children are enjoying the time with their assigned officer they will be fed breakfast and later transported by escort to Wal-Mart in Prince Frederick.

The children will be provided with funds to purchase school supplies and clothing for the upcoming school year.  After they have completed their purchases the children will be transported to Outback Steakhouse in Prince Frederick who will be providing the children with a buffet style lunch.

Sport Clips Haircuts of Prince Frederick will be providing a free hair cut for all the young men attending and Hair Line in Dunkirk is providing bags containing miscellaneous hair care products to all the young ladies attending.

“Calvert Shop with a Cop” partnered with the Board of Education to identify children for the program.  They were selected by the school counselors at each of the six middle schools in the county.  It is anticipated that 25 children will participate in this year’s event.

Funding for the event has come from multiple fundraisers that were hosted by Mrs. Jeannie Stone at Stoney’s Restaurant in Broomes Island.  Lord Calvert Bowl is generously donating two games of bowling for the students.
