It was hot. But they had plenty of water, in bowls for drinking, and in pools for playing. At times the dogs seemed to outnumber the human attendees at this past weekend’s Maryland DogFest at Regency Furniture Stadium, with humans being pulled by several canines at a time.

The dogs and their human companions competed for Look Alike, Best Dressed and Dog Idol contests and showed their skills in a number of events such as agility and water diving.

A number of rescue groups from all over the region, including several breed rescue organizations, showed adoptable dogs to attendees and provided information. And many commercial vendors, from waste removal to dog training, handed out information and freebies.

While the dog attendees were not available for an interview, judging from the fun they seemed to be having, the event appeared to be a success from the canine perspective. And whenever dogs are having fun their human companions are in dog heaven as well.

The event on Saturday and Sunday was sponsored by Les Greenway Waldorf Subaru.
