A New Holiday Tradition is Born in Annapolis

A new tradition has begun in downtown Annapolis after the first annual Ham It Up on December 22, 2011. The Bayhawks, McGarvey’s, and Smartlink kicked off the holidays outside McGarvey’s and gave away holiday hams to the community. The event was a huge success and will certainly bring joy to holiday tables for families in need throughout the area.

The Bayhawks, McGarvey’s, and Smartlink asked individuals to sponsor holiday hams for families and by the start of the event the sponsorship had sold out. Vouchers for hams had been distributed throughout the week to local charities and senior centers. Attackman Drew Westervelt, defensemen Michael Evans and Tim Kaiser, goalie Kip Turner, and midfielders Kyle Dixon, Ben Hunt, Chris Hunt, Michael Kimmel, and Scott LaRue gave nearly 100 hams to families who brought their vouchers to McGarvey’s.

“I thought the first annual Ham It Up was a great success,” Bayhawks’ owner Brendan Kelly proclaimed. “We look forward to making it bigger and even better next year. Thank you to all of our sponsors and everyone who came out to support us last night.”

The Bayhawks look forward to continuing their dedication to giving back to the community, especially during the holidays. To learn how you can help the team give back during this season, please check out www.thebayhawks.com for all of their community initiatives.
