BREAKING NEWS: Plane Wreck in Chesapeake Ranch Estates

A small plane has crashed in Lusby. Due to fuel leaking some residents have been evacuated. MSP Trooper 2 has transported two males. One was the pilot and the other a passenger.

Calvert and St. Mary's rescue crews are on the scene.

The FAA and NSTB have been requested to the scene to begin an investigation.

UPDATE 7:25PM:

The rescue crews are asking for everyone to please stay away from the scene so their crews can have access in and out. The road is now blocked.

UPDATE 7:35PM:

One firefighter has been transported to a local hospital.

Plane crash
Prayers to the people in the plane. I do hope they are alright.
A friend that lives there said the pilot was very accomplished and had a lot of hours on a stick...

Lol. Lots of hours on the stick does not mean the are qualified to fly a plane. My wife has hours of experience on the stick and in no way is she qualified to fly a plane.

Crash information
According to the scanner both the pilot & passager was flown to PG Hospital. At the time of the transport both patients were conctience at the time. Also there were (2) fire fighters transported to the hospital.

The two who crashed were my boyfriend and his dad. My bf is fine, his dad (the pilot) had a concussion and broken leg (from his wife). His dad was a marine and had plenty of experience; it's a shame, they bought this plane from their friends just a month ago!

Who's opinion is it that the runway wasn't properly lighted? Are you a pilot?
Many pilots land at night but maybe they are more experienced landing on the CRE airstrip than this particular guy was.
I am glad they are ok and all of you with snarky comments should STFU. No respect, I tell ya!

A friend tells me that vandals keep busting out the runway lights. Every time the volunteers go and replace them- they get busted out again. If they ever catch them, there will be a stiff price to pay- it is a federal offense to mess with anything on an airport.

All the lights were functioning just fine on the runway...because the people who live on the airport fix them every time they are vandalized. Which is often.

my house
I just want to say, my friend was in the plane and the plane landed in my yard. They missed the airstrip and landed in the woods in my yard. The passenger was shaken up but the pilot had more serious injuries. My dad and neighbor were the one's who pulled the pilot out of the plane.

11-21 any updates?
I never heard a thing other than sirens, which aren't rare here anymore. Where in the ranch estates did the plane crash? By what roads?

Living in the Ranch Estates for many years, I can only wonder why something like this doesn't happen more often.I'm very happy no one was seriously injured or killed and exactly how lucky it is that the plane didn't strike a home killing everyone inside. The airfield is used by only a small number of members...extremely small. Having been an active private pilot for years I also understand the enjoyment of flying. But when you measure the risk to civilians to that of the number active pilots which use this airfield, is it truly worth it??? It might be time to "float" an amendment to the Ranch Estates to put the airfield to better use.

I have a hard time believing you are or were a private pilot.
I come from a family of pilots and have friends that fly as well. Safely. This incident was unfortunate and yes, it could have been a lot worse.
Can you imagine the class action lawsuit taken by the homeowners on the airport people like you manage to try to shut it down? There are millions of dollars in homes, hangars and airplanes there.
