Door-to-Door Salesman Injures Cop in Struggle, Then Runs

At 7:55 p.m. May 16, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Barrington Drive in Waldorf for the citizen’s report of a suspicious person. Investigation revealed the man identified as Henry Lavelle Jones, 30, of Mitchelville, was going door-to-door attempting to sell tools. Officer Hemsley was attempting to pat Jones down when Jones began to struggle, injuring Officer Hemsley’s wrist. Jones fled but was apprehended a short time later and placed under arrest. He was charged with assault on a police officer and is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. |
