The St Mary’s County Department of Public Safety will be utilizing the CodeRed Emergency Notification System on August 8, 2011 at approximately 11:00 a.m. to call the entire community. The calls will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will continue until the entire database has been attempted.

The message that is being delivered, directs recipients to the St. Mary’s County website to opt into the system and select the types of warnings they are interested in receiving. Citizens can then add their information to receive the severe weather warning calls. The call will also ask citizens to ensure that their five digit street address is properly displayed for their home or business. This will help our Emergency Responders locate your address when 911 calls are received.

The Department of Public Safety recommends that citizens opt in to the CodeRed Weather Warning system and also suggests that all individuals and businesses take the time to visit the website and add contact information to include cellular phones and other non-traditional phones as well as email and text addresses (for use by the CodeRed system).

Businesses should register, as well as individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number recently and those who use a cellular phone exclusively or have VoIP phones (such as Vonage) as their primary numbers.

The Department of Public Safety urges citizens to log onto the St Mary’s County website at and follow the CodeRed link at the bottom of the page. Those without Internet access may call 301-475-4200 ext.2150 and leave a message with all their contact information. Required information includes a street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes) for location purposes and a primary phone number. Additional phone numbers, email and text addresses may also be entered.

Additional information about the CodeRed Warning system is on the website. For further information please call 301-475-4200 ext.2150.
