26th Annual Chaptico Classic Race & Walk
Chaptico, MD - 7/4/2011
Jog, hop, slither, walk, or crawl to Chaptico, Maryland, on Saturday, August 27 for the 26th annual Chaptico Classic road race and fun walk. Hares and tortoises can compete on a 10K or 5K T.A.C. certified course described by Running Times as “one of the best country road races.” Amblers can opt for a scenic three-mile walk along scenic byways. Kids 10 years and under are invited to join the Chaptico Chase, the 100-yard dash that opens the event.
After the race, meet three-time Olympic competitor and bronze medalist Lynn Jennings. Jennings holds a record collection of 39 national titles in track, road and cross-country in distances ranging from 1500 meters to 10,000 meters.
Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female runners as well as the top racers in several age categories for each event. There will be T-shirts, healthy snacks, and other goodies for all!
This year’s race will benefit: Three Oaks Shelter, which helps individuals and families with shelter and self-sufficiency, St. Mary’s Caring Soup Kitchen; Southern Maryland Community Network offering a variety of mental health and support services to adolescents in Southern Maryland; and, the Mary Lou Gough Food Pantry, which is served by a consortium of churches and other institutions in St. Mary’s County. These non-profit agencies have a long tradition and record of responsiveness to the community.
Be part of the region’s oldest running event. Pre-register by visiting www.active.com, by calling 301-475-2886 or e-mailing Cara at tcainc@md.metrocast.net, or sign up beginning at 7:00 a.m. on the day of the race.
