Pedestrian’s Full Name:  Darrel Gene Sallie, W/M, DOB: 08/01/53 (Deceased)

Pedestrian’s Age:  57

Injuries Received:  Head and Internal Injuries

Medical Transportation:  Johnson Body Removal

Transported To:  Medical Examiners Office - Baltimore, MD.


 


Narrative:

    On March 25, 2011 at 1104 hours, a citizen called 911 and reported a person lying off the roadway on Rt 6 at Perry Road La Plata, MD.  Maryland State Police and the Charles County Sheriff’s Officers responded and discovered a male lying on the shoulder.  The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The deceased is identified as 57 year old Darrel Gene Sallie of La Plata, Maryland.  Next of kin was notified.


 

Investigation revealed a vehicle was traveling westbound on MD Rt 6 east of Perry Road and travelled off the roadway striking a pedestrian.  The pedestrian was struck on the shoulder.  The vehicle striking the pedestrian failed to remain at the scene and report the collision.  At this time there is no description of the suspect vehicle and no exact time of when the collision occurred.  Trooper N. Iannucci and TFC. J. Zimmerman of The Maryland State Police is handling the Investigation.

Police are looking for a late 90s Ford full size truck or Expedition with front grill damage. Please see photo of similar grill. How could someone hit someone in broad daylight and then drive off. Clearly that person doesn't have a conscience or a heart. I hope they find the person that did this to him. My sympathies to Mr. Sallie's family.

It has been over 4 months and the person who killed my father is still out there. If, by some odd chance, you read this, please turn yourself in. Take responsibility. Allow us that tiny amount of understanding that only your account of the accident can bring. Believe it or not, you are in my families prayers. We are going through the worst kind of heartache right now; however, I still cannot imagine the toll living with the knowledge you killed someone must be taking on you. "Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy; Proverbs 28:13". Forgiveness and peace can be yours.

I would like to thank the officers and detectives who are still working leads and the people who have called in leads. If you know anything - please keep calling in information. My Dad was a great man who worked very hard to provide for his family. He was a quiet person; the type of man who would buy a sandwich for a homeless person, drive 21 hours to work 18 hour days to paint his daughters house on a holiday weekend, and spend hours sitting by his dying father-in-laws bedside doing what he could to provide comfort and companionship. The morning before he died, Dad wrote out some verses from the Bible. One, Romans 8:28, was paraphrased to say: "God is the love of our lives, and He has called us in accordance with His purposes. He has promised us that all things will work together today for our good". I can only believe that God is in control, and what happened that day, while not of His making, will be utilized, somehow, for His glory. Happy Birthday Daddy, you would have been 58 Monday. I miss you.
