Bowles Farms once again played host to the 6th Annual St. Mary’s County National Lawn Mower Racing event. The event was held this past weekend, July 9 and 10th at Bowles Farm in Clements.

Lawnmower racers from across the country came to compete for a chance to earn points to the national finals. Each year the races are hotly contested and wildly cheered by area fans, all amazed at the speeds attained by men and women on lawn mowers.

This year’s event included two action packed days of family fun, activity and outdoor entertainment. In addition to the actual racing there were children's rides, a moon bounce, a kiddy tractor pull, a John Deere toy display, K-9 demonstrations, pony rides, face painting and antique tractors on display.

Three local men were among the national racers competing to include Kevin Ferguson of Hollywood, Wally Bender of Bryantown and Jason Brown, 32 of Clements. Brown was winner of the SP Class both Friday and Saturday nights. Brown will take this win and plans to race in Tennessee the first weekend in August and will finish in Ohio, Labor Day weekend competing in the STA-BIL National finals. If Brown wins in Ohio, he will take be crowned the SP National Champion for a second straight year.
