Meet the Candidate: Eric Wargotz for US Senate
Queen Anne County - 6/23/2010
|
In a recent interview on Baynet Radio and TheBAYNET.com, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, Eric Wargotz laid out his policies, positions and the reason he decided to run for Senate and to attempt to unseat long-time incumbent, Barbara Mikulski. Wargotz is currently president of the Queen Anne County Board of Commissioners and a practicing medical professional, but decided to run for the Senate because, “I believe that government has gone too far and I decided to run to preserve the freedoms that made this country great.”
He went on to state that Americans need more freedom and less government intrusion in their lives. “There has to be more personal responsibility, lower taxes and a strong national security.” Wargotz stated that it is time for common-sense solutions to the tough challenges facing the country.
“I am outraged by career politicians who care more about their political lives than those of the people who elected them,” Wargotz said. He believes that the all important phrase ‘we the people’ has set the battle ground for the 2010 elections. “All of us have had more than enough of ‘business as usual’ and no political party is without responsibility for where we find ourselves today.”
Wargotz believes that the solutions that are required to fix what ails the country are written in clear concise language – the constitution. “Our government, founded in our Constitution, provides the means by which we can and will correct this.”
The candidate is a fiscal conservative in addition to being a constitutionally-based Republican and believes the country should come to its senses and be run with that in mind. “I stand for low taxes, adherence to the constitution, less government, law and order, government transparency and accountability,” said Wargotz.
Wargotz’ campaign efforts consist primarily of a four-cornerstone approach with the first being the demise of the Health Care Reform law passed by Congress earlier this year. “As a doctor, I understand the need for common sense reforms to our health care system that will drive down costs, improve care and cut down on wait times.”
He stated that, if elected, he would work to repeal the legislation. “There is really only one way to get that accomplished. We just don’t fund the program. Once the program is not funded it will force every back to the table and we can come up with a plan that actually works.”
On economic reform, Wargotz believes that fixing the economy has to begin with fiscal responsibility – balancing the budget, lowering taxes and creating jobs. “Government waste, abuse, incompetence and fraud are threatening our children’s future.”
Wargotz also is concentrating his campaign efforts in the environment and energy independence. “As a resident of the eastern shore, I know first hand the value of the Chesapeake Bay to life here in Maryland. The Bay not only provides for our quality of life, but for our livelihood as well,” said Wargotz. “The Chesapeake Bay is an economic engine unlike any in the country,” he continued.
He stated that he supports policies to create energy independence, good jobs and a cleaner environment, but that those policies need to be couple with better and more innovative ways of reducing the energy used. “We should continue to invest in wind, solar, clean coal, Biofuels, nuclear energy as well as oil and natural gas.”
