Dominion Resources Contributes $5,000 to The Arc of Southern Maryland

On Thursday, Feb. 4, Director of Dominion Cove Point, Mike Frederick presented a check on behalf of Dominion Resources in the amount of $5,000 to The Arc of Southern Maryland’s Community Resource Center Capital Campaign. Chaired by Bill Chambers, of Showplace Arena, and spearheaded by The Arc of Southern Maryland’s Board of Directors, The Arc’s capital campaign has raised over $1.7 Million towards the $2.1 Million goal.

Dominion Managing Director, Carolyn Moss states that “Dominion admires the invaluable services you (The Arc of Southern Maryland) continue to provide for the community.” The agency’s mission is to promote community involvement, independence and personal success for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As one of the leading advocates in Southern Maryland, the newly renovated Community Resource Center is a 21st century prototype for community inclusiveness for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Center’s floor plan includes over 13,000 square feet of flexible space for day support services, recreational activities, consumer and staff training. Residents of the greater southern Maryland region in search of meeting or fellowship space are invited to utilize the facility as well.

Harriet Yaffe, Executive Director of The Arc of Southern Maryland expressed her sincerest thanks to the Dominion representatives for their contribution towards the capital campaign. An open house is scheduled to celebrate the grand opening of the Community Resource Center, on Thursday, February 18, 2010.
