Teens Set Fire on Board an Occupied School Bus

WALDORF - 11/20/2009

The Maryland State Fire Marshalls are investigating a case of arson in Charles County following a fire on an occupied school bus.

Investigation revealed two 13-year-old males were charged with second-degree malicious burning and reckless endangerment after igniting combustible materials with a cigarette lighter while riding a bus in motion occupied by several children.

No injuries were reported. Damage estimate rings in at $100.

The juveniles were released to the custody of their parents.

The case has been forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Services for disposition.

What the
Kids lighting the bus on fire while it has students on it. So what do we need to do, frisk them down before they get on the bus. Obviously they are smoking cigarettes and whatever else already if there bringing a lighter to school. I hope there parents burn there azzs, along with some bus suspension.

1, what are these kids doing with a cigarette lighter? 2. You can't even put your kid on a bus anymore these days! I would never have thought to do something like that when I was a kid. What is wrong with kids these days?!!? Oh, I know! You can't discipline your kid anymore so they are getting out of hand!

bus fire
How stupid are todays kids. Havent they seen how fast a bus can burn. Its right up there with inmates setting thier cells on fire while they are still in it. I say screw the law and take back control of your kids. Parents whose kids threaten them with calling 911, Id hand them the phone and tell them Ill be out of jail tonight and you will still be in a foster home. Take back control and stop letting these kids rule your life. Whose the freaking parent anyway?

One hundred dollars worth of damage to a school bus is what.. replacing the back of a seat? I very much doubt they were attempting to light the bus on fire with a cigarette lighter. Relax.

Whether they MEANT to catch the bus on fire or not doesn't matter. They were 13 years old with a cigarette lighter, and they used it, on a bus. One, they should have never had a cigarette lighter, two, they DEFINITELY shouldn't have had it on a bus OR at school, and three, they shouldn't have been using it. Its illegal for them to buy a lighter also, so where did they get it from? Either the parents were stupid enough to trust them with it, or they stole it from their parents, a store, or another person. No matter what the reason, they shouldn't have one in their possession and they made a stupid choice lighting it on the bus. They know its against the rules and they know they'd get in trouble if someone found out. They aren't stupid, they know what fire does, so thats another issue. they know its not safe and they did it anyway, they put their lives and the lives of others in danger. There is NO REASON to stick up for them.
