DWI Offender Arrested Twice in One Week

LEXINGTON PARK - 11/2/2009

On Oct. 31 at 9:41 p.m. St. Mary’s County Sheriffs pulled over a white Chevrolet van after receiving multiple complaints about erratic driving. A witness stopped and waited for police after reporting the incident.

Pulled over was Robert Eugene Bailey, 45 of Lexington Park. The vehicle was stopped at the intersection of northbound Three Notch Road and Chancellors Run Rd. Bailey was charged with multiple offenses including: Attempt by Driver to Elude Police in Official Vehicle by Failing to Stop, (Driving, attempting to drive) Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol, (Driving, attempting to drive) Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol, Driving a Motor Vehicle on a Suspended License and Driving a Motor Vehicle on Highway or Public Use Property on a Revoked License.

Bailey is no stranger to arrest. He has been arrested many times all over Maryland over the past 20 years. Just six days prior to this incident on Oct. 24 at 6 a.m., he was taken into custody at Three Notch Road and Point Lookout Road and received similar charges, including  (Driving, attempting to drive) Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol and driving on a suspended license.

Glad they got this drunk off the road before he killed someone. Too bad he won't have any trouble getting his drug of choice when he gets out.

Why is he out?
Why is this guy back out on the streets? Why don't the judges sentence him to some time in jail, take away his car, and his license?

My husband and I were recently hit by someone who had a revoked license. He also appeared to be under the influence. When looking up his record, he had been arrested just 3 weeks prior for the same thing and this wasn't the first time! Why, after multiple DUIs, are these people allowed out on the streets? Obviously, they don't care about the revoked or suspended license, because they are still out there driving. Thank God my husband and I were not hurt, but it is VERY frustrating to have to go through all of this for someone who should not even be on the road!

My brother needs help!!
This drunk is my brother! And there is a lot of story behind why he drinks like he does! The reason he gets behind the wheel I have no clue and I really wished he would not because yes he could kill some incent person or himself, But in the last 20 years he has lost his mother, his 4 brother, his father and step father of whom he was very close too.Every since then he has gone down hill. I am not making excuses for him there is no excuse but what I am saying is me and his remaing siblings has asked the courts for help for him however they just throw him behind bars where they still can get the same in there as if they were out on the street! He needs help with his drinking and drugs! Rehab only keeps you for a month or two then they think your ok then let you go your not ok you need to stay in a place that will help you thru what ever is making you do what you do not just talk about how came I drink there gonna tell you what you wanna hear to get out of there. they need to be made to stay for a year or two so they get to know you and the person that needs help will open up and tell them wdhat truly is bothering them. I love my brother and I wished that someone out there would hear my story and help my brother get the help he needs. He goes to my mothers grave and lay beside her a cries for hours! What are we suppose to do as siblings? We have tried talking to him and we think we get thru to him but as soon as holidays start rolling around its the same thing all over again. So please I see what all of you are saying about drunk driving because my Father and Brother was killed by a drunk driver. All that I am asking is that all of you put yourself in my shoes if that was your brother and you knew he needed help but there is nothing that you could do because he is a adult what would you do? I am asking that someone lead me in the right direction of what to do before someone loses there life or even my brother is takin away like my father and brother from drunk driving!

Yeah, it's definitely a sad story. I myself am a recovering alcoholic with over 3 years sober, so I know how hard it is. I feel sorry for your brother, but I really just hope he can get himself straightened out before it's too late. Before he kills himself or someone else.

Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot you can do to make him quit drinking. My family tried everything they could but I just wouldn't stop, because addiction is just that strong. I was only able to stop when I coouldn't take the negative consquences of drinking anymore. I woke up in jail with a serious felony, and I had no memory of what happened! That's when it finally clicked that I need to stop drinking or I'll end up in prison, and I haven't had a drink since.

Back to your brother, I think the best thing you could do would be to request to the courts to have him forcefully placed into an inpatient treatment program. He needs some time sober, and he needs to be around people who understand addiction. Here's the name of a rehab that I was at a few times, and I believe that it's a good place to get sober. Click For Link ... This place is in Edgewood, MD. It's a 28 day inpatient program and the staff that works there are all recovering addict. This is the best rehab I've been too(and I've been to a lot over the years). Call the courts and see if you can convince them to place him in here or a similar place. I am so sorry for your troubles and wish there was a easy answer for you. As Damn_crime has said until he wants and accepts help there is not much you or anyone can do. It's the old saying " you can lead a horse to water but you can not make it drink". My prayers and with you and your family in this time of trouble.
