Local Fishing Report

Rockfish abound in the Bay and rivers. The shallows are holding rockfish in the evenings and mornings on the moving tides. The rockfish are hefty and are local fish, not the migratory fish from the Atlantic. The Bay has breaking fish all up and down the ship's channel with most being twenty inches or better, and some are up to the mid thirties. Trollers using medium bucktails and spoons are finding plenty. Those fishermen lucky to have live spot find plenty of eager rockfish using live-lining techniques.

The gas docks and the pilings under the Solomon’s bridge in the Patuxent are great for live spot. The spot are hard to catch now.

We had a report of one rockfish caught trolling off St. George's Island that weighed 52 pounds and measured 49 inches. This may be the vanguard of ocean fish entering our waters.

White perch are rapidly leaving the creeks and heading for the deep holes in the rivers. The Solomon’s Bridge area has great perch fishing in 70 feet.
