Mother Calls Police for Help with her Out-of-Control Son

LEXINGTON PARK - 10/23/2009

On October 19, at 10:48 a.m, Tpr. J. S. Gibson responded to the 47000 block of Mary Lynn Drive in Lexington Park for the reported Out of Control Juvenile.

Upon arrival, contact was made with the female complainant, 53 of Lexington Park, who advised her son was out of control and being disrespectful. The 15-year-old male juvenile was placed under arrest and transported to the Leonardtown Barrack for processing. Juvenile Services was contacted and responded to the Leonardtown Barrack for an evaluation of the juvenile. It was determined that the juvenile be taken to the Cheltenham Youth Facility in Prince George’s County.

The juvenile was transported to the youth Facility in Cheltenham pending further action of the Juvenile Services office.

I'm sure this had to be a hard thing to do. Even though I don't know you but I'm so proud of you! Some parents need to take lessons from you!!

I agree when you wrote; " Some parents need to take lessons from you!! However, I think those lessons need to be titled, "How not to raise a child" These problems didn't start with this incident. It's how this kid has been raised for the past 15 years. That parenting has to be placed squarely in the moms lap. No doubt about it.

What was he charged with?
What was he charged with? I'm not on his side but the above article does not say. If he was arrested then obviously some sort of criminal offense occured.

Bad Teens
I don't have any pity for any teens that that want to show how mean and nasty they can be, tuff luv needs be used right away. Hell, they no right from wrong.

Raising teenagers can be tough
but...... I read this story and all I can think of is that this woman is a complete failure as a parent. Her problems didn't just start with this. I'm sure that this kid has never recieved any dicipline from mom. I'm willing to bet $ on it. Also, where is dad? Was he ever in the picture? Is he involved in his kids life? There are many, many questions here, but as I said, this story points to mom being a complete failure as a parent. I'm sure that our sheriff's office, our courts and our corrections people will be seeing lots of this kid in the future! Thanks mom, for turning out such a fine young man!

Firefly, you sir are seriously a moron. If he is out of control how the hell is she going to discipline someone that will hit you back and fight you. She can't get to involved or else she will be charged with child abuse. She could have raised this kid properly and he just got around bad people at school and changed. I surely hope your so called great and outstanding kids don't go out killing someone at 18. Sheesh, what an awful parent you are firefly... Juvenile services evaluted the child and came back positive for one of those problems that make them lose it and need medication for. I read your comment and all I can think of is that you are a complete failure as a whole and as a human being. You are a disgrace.....

I guess, by reading your response, all 14-15 year olds need to do is take 1 swing at their parents and it's all over. Teenager is in charge because there is nothing that parents can do except call the cops. What a sad statement. When I refered to a lack of dicipline, I was talking about a lack of dicipline for 15 years. This Kid didn't turn bad for this one incident. That's not how it works! She has raised this kid for 15 years. The problem did not just pop up now, his problems have been building since day 1 because his mother is a failure as a parent. If "he just got around bad people at school" then it was her job to step up and do something about that. No one else. It was her job. She failed and her kid(s) and our society will be paying for her failure. Who else should we blame? Please answer that 1 question. Who is to blame? If you don't like the word "blame" then I'll ask it another way. Who's responsibility is it that her kid turned out this way? It is her responsibility and no one elses! Hard decision, but...
I don't usually comment on Baynet, but I felt like I needed to comment on this story. It is a very hard decision to make when your child is out of control. Your safety, your child's safety and the safety of the other family members need to be considered. I have turned two of my children into the police. Why??? Because I love them. When you have teenagers who think that they can run the house then they need to be taught that there are consequences for their actions. I have been hit, bit and shoved by my children. My youngest has gotten hit and so has my husband. Yes, I am married. Father in the home. I have been a stay at home mom for the last 17 years and I'm a church going woman. I don't drink and I don't do drugs. Unfortunately, you can try and do all the "right" things for your children, but they still have a will of their own. It doesn't mean that you haven't raised them right all those years. There are other influences in their lives. I give this mom a lot of credit for making this very difficult decision and I pray that her child receives any help and/or direction so that this child will stop these destructive actions now, and the child won't end up in our jails in a few years. Sometimes hard lessons learned are the most life changing ones that we need.

I am so sick of people who judge parents and say that its the parents fault. I raised 4 children taught them right from wrong. I didnt give them everything they wanted either. I still ended up having at least 1 of my boys end up in jail. He is still there today. I did everything I could for him but he always knew more then I did. When you have children like that, the best thing you can do is get help from other resources. I am sure this mom has not washed her hands of the child and I am sure that when this all goes through the court system she will still be by the childs side. You cant just walk away but you are showing the child that since he/she wouldnt listen to you, you had to get help from someone else. I commend this parent for seeking help from someone else. Otherwise she would end up in jail herself for child abuse. Which I think is crazy but this is what our society is all about now. There is NO discipline in the home anymore. Parents are not allowed to have the rule of the home anymore. Children run the home now.

Mom hit it right on the nose when she mentioned there are outside influences in a childs life especially when they reach there teen years. Just because you raise your child right, it will not guarantee you an Angel.

Congratulations. Perhaps the two of you should get together with the mom in this story and form a club, or better yet, call it a support group. You can meet once a month to sit around and blame your failures on others. to escape, you wrote "I still ended up having at least 1 of my boys end up in jail." Does that mean you think there are more to come? How sad........

I always find it interesting reading everyone's posts to stories like this. Some of the comments are very informative and helpful and then, you have people like firefly. It is pretty funny that, in looking at your stats, I can tell you have much experience in raising kids, being 21 and all. If you don't have experience in raising kids and, in this case, teenagers, you really do not have any business judging someone else on how they raise their children.
