Re-Employment Office Offers Help to Job Seekers

WALDORF - 10/18/2009

The region's Workforce Investment Board (WIB) opened last month a new Job Match Re-Employment Office in Waldorf to assist unemployed "mid- to high-wage earners," defined as those who had salaries higher than $40,000 annually. The service will also help local businesses by putting them in touch with qualified applicants.

The office is run by Eleanor Nelson, an outside employment consultant. She is training job seekers in resume writing, interviewing, networking and other skills while working with employers to fill open positions.

The Tri-County Council, which organized the WIB, secured a $125,000 grant through the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, to fund a center here. The grant will keep the office open through February and WIB might seek more funding to keep it open longer.

For more information, contact the Job Match Re-Employment Office in the Southern Maryland Business Center on 3195 Old Washington Road, Suite 2111, Waldorf at (240) 412-3177.
