Car Thief Caught in Foot Chase, Passenger Escapes

On Oct. 10 at 12:07 a.m., officers initiated a traffic stop on Berry Road near Western Parkway in Waldorf after recognizing the vehicle as one in they tried to stop two weeks ago but the driver fled. A computer check revealed the car had been reported stolen from Prince George’s County.
 
As officers approached the car, the driver and a passenger jumped out and fled. The driver, Jamel Lamar Dixon, 18 of Ft. Washington, was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. The passenger fled into a wooded area and escaped.

Officers found a small amount of marijuana inside the car. Dixon was charged with motor vehicle theft, possession of drugs, resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations. Officer D. Major is investigating.
