St. Mary’s County Department of Public Safety, Sheriff’s Office and St. Mary’s Hospital held an Emergency Preparedness Fair on Friday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lexington Park Library.

During the event seasonal flu shots for adults, 18 and older, were available for only $20 and there were many activities for the whole family including giveaways that will help prepare families for their role in an emergency.

The time to prepare for an emergency is before it happens. At the fair visitors were able to talk with the experts from the Department of Public Safety, SMH, SMCSO, the Red Cross and other community agencies about emergency preparedness, pandemic flu, fire safety and more.

Despite dreary skies and a chilly outside temperature, the atmosphere at Lexington Park Library was warm and cozy and the many attendees enjoyed free refreshments while learning what to do in emergencies.
