Murder Conviction Upheld

ST. MARY'S COUNTY - 10/8/2009

State’s Attorney, Richard Fritz announced on Oct. 8, that the first degree murder conviction of Johntonna Euron Young was upheld by the Maryland Court of Special Appeals by written opinion dated Sept. 17.

Young shot and killed Kenneth James Walter as he left his apartment for work in the morning of Feb. 27, 2007. As Walter entered his parked car, Young, who was inside of Walter’s car attempting to steal items from within, confronted Walter and shot him in the face. Upon exiting Walter’s car, Young fired a second shot into Walter’s head, killing him instantly.

A jury trial, headed by State’s Attorney Fritz resulted in a verdict of guilty to all counts. Young was sentenced to life without parole, plus 20 years.

What a sweet guy and loved by alot of folks...I know this because I was at his memorial. I didn't know this was even appealed!
Thank you Mr. Fritz for what was sure to be an easy task for you to uphold in this monsters conviction..unbelievable that his family had to go through this again!!

Justice is served
I am so happy that this punk will be spending the rest of his life behind bars. What he did was beyond horrible. How can someone just take another person's life like he did? He is nothing but a low life. I knew Ken and he was a great guy. The kind of guy who would have done anything for anybody. Ken, you can now rest in peace knowing that justice has been served.

good to see that his life is over, ken was a good friend and i hope that what was recorded at the funeral of all of us talking about the good times with ken helped in the conviction. You are missed kenny

Where did racism play a part in any of the comments except for yours? This person was CONVICTED of murder not just accused. I don't care if he's black, green or purple, he took a young man's life.

And your boasting about having a bachelor's degree...your profile says that you're 20. A little young to have finished college and be making all that money, isn't it?

The reason that the case was appealed is because Maryland has a mandatory appeal process. So it doesn't matter if you are convicted by jury or confess to everything....your case will be appealed.

The funny thing is everyone that writes on here might not have been in court during the trial. But if they was there they would have heard the whole story on everything. But then again St. Mary's County is a RACIST COUNTY. So anything that any black male down there do they will be titled as a thug. "As Tupac defined it, a thug is someone who is going through struggles, has gone through struggles, and continues to live day by day with nothing for them." so stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

What's So Special??
What is so special about a MURDERER? Why should we even care about him ? He didn't care about the value of life. Mr. Walter's family will never have the joy of clebrating his life with him. No we do not want to hear how special you think your son is!!

Ken was an awesome person, I miss him alot. I'm very proud that he served our country (GO NAVY) we could use a few more good men like him. I'm glad this guy lost his apeal and will do hard time. I hope Ken's family will get some peace knowing his killer wont be back on the streets. I hope the other family well too. This is a hard situation for both families.

I know this guy. Didn't realize it was him, guess I didn't really look at any previous pictures that went around at the time this went on. What is the deal with life and then 20 years? If hes there for life then why add that?

a life sentence is actually only a 25 year sentence. So he really got 45 years. I know this only because of being in the court room for my cousin's murder trial. I was shocked, i always assumed life sentence meant until you die, but thats not the case.

Also my cousins killer got 3 life sentences so it seems to me this guy got off pretty easy. Their murders where very similar both shot in the head by strangers both happened in st. mary's. but ken's also had a robbery where my cousins was only murder... so this guy committed 2 crimes and still got less time. Doesn't make sense to me they should both get the death penalty.

and just for the record my cousin was a white man and his killer was a white man. And his killer and ken's are equally wastes of perfectly good oxygen, a sh*t stain in the underpants of society!

Wow John... this is crazy! I highly doubt whatever you were trying to get out this mans car was worth serving life in prison for. Ya'll boys need to stop with all this crime and I am not just referring to black boys! I can stand the fact that everytime something happens people just have to turn it in to a race issue.JOHN WAS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any person that murders another person deserves life white or black. The additional 20 years was kind of too much I mean yeah he is already doing life but look at how he shot him, you can tell her actually wanted this man dead so maybe that's the reason why. I am not trying to choose sides or anything because I know John pretty good and the John I knew was not this kind of person but we all know that he is wrong.
I just hope that what John have done will teach these other guys that want to play HARD a lesson and show them that this stuff is not cool.

l.p. city you suggest that we should know our facts....perhaps you need to first know your facts. You Stated that St.Mary's County is a racist County. I would like to point out to you that many TOP Government positions in St.Mary's County are and have been held by many African American Citizens of this County. These African Americans also struggled to reach their goals in life, and I for one congradulate them for their honest achievments.

I am in complete agreement with edinsomd! I may be ignorant as to how the whole prison system works but I would think that this young man's family still has the opportunity to visit him. If not they at least have the comfort of knowing that he is alive and well. None of us will ever see Ken again!
Ken, I miss you terribly sweetie! I give my best to the Walter family. I am sure that you know that your son was an amazing man!!! He was very very loved!!! This may not be justice and I know that you will never again have total peace but I hope that this "thug" being off the streets at least brings you comfort!

Pure Torture
It is pure torture to have to try and decipher what someone is saying on here...Briannalewis, I don't know where you got your education, but wherever it was needs to burned down! You sound like the most uneducated and stupid person. It's really scary to think that kids are graduating high school when they write worse than 1st graders!
