Woman's Foot Slips of Brake Crashing into Store Front

WHITE PLAINS - 10/7/2009

On Oct. 3 at 11:10 a.m., the operator of a 2001 Lincoln MKX was parking her car in a handicapped parking spot in front of the Shell gas station at 4705 Crain Highway in White Plains when her foot slipped off the brake causing the car to crash through the store front and into some shelves.

No one was injured.

Officer W. Saunders is investigating.

Every folk over the age of 65 should be retesting for there license, there has been more instances where they cause more accidents than teenagers.

Everybody(!) should have to take an 'actual road test' upon intitial licenseing and every other renewal there-after. That driving around the back lot does NOT prove ones capabilities on the open road! I'm confident the pass rate would be lower if the evaluators actually road along in real traffic.

I hate to say it but they should do the driving test part and the written part. I have seen so many older people just fly through stop signs not even realizing it was even there!

...if they tested everyone everytime, you would have a longer wait thsn now.

I agree...
There should be some type of test once you reach a certain age. Maybe even just a doctor's certificate....something.

There is someone a see on a regular basis that has advanced Parkinson's disease. They have trouble just walking. The first time I watched them get behind the wheel and drive off scared me to death.

I also had a friend that was killed by a woman that was so frail she had to have oxygen to breath and there was a walker in the back seat.

...And your point is? A longer wait. We do this how often? Once every four years?

Older, younger, it doesn't matter. We can all agree on one thing, that we have each encountered drivers who we believe should not be behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. If driving tests (for all) included an actual road portion, I'm confident there would be more people NOT given (or re-issued) licenses. We all know the parking lot MVA uses as a proficiency check is a joke. A driving test doesn't need to be at each renewal. Other states require it at varied intervals...every other renewal, every third renewal, every 10 years, etc.
