The State Highway Administration’s Great Mills Road Streetscape Project is underway and will reconstruct MD Rte. 246 from MD Rte. 235 (Three Notch Road) to west of Saratoga Drive.
This project is part of St. Mary’s County’s Lexington Park Revitalization Initiative and will improve pedestrian and vehicular safety and access to local businesses. Aesthetic improvements will enhance the corridor’s appearance and water/sewer lines will be replaced.
To receive project updates via email, contact Bob Rager, SHA District 5 Community Liaison at rrager@sha.state.md.us and include MD 246 Streetscape on the subject line. Ask to “Send e-news” in the message. For current information about the project, log on to the State Highway Administration’s website at www.sha.maryland.gov and click on Projects.
The project is estimated to be completed in summer 2011. MD 246 will remain open to traffic throughout construction although temporary lane closures will be necessary. SHA will post signs alerting motorists to any lane closures. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution while driving through the work zone and be alert for construction workers and equipment.
