On Sept. 30, deputies responded to a residence on Baringer Drive in California, for a report of a domestic.

Investigation revealed Gary Elwood Joy, II, 27 of California, was in a verbal dispute, which escalated into a physical assault when he grabbed the victim by the arm and threw her on the bed.  Joy then retrieved a shotgun, racked a round in the chamber in a threatening manner towards the victim.  Joy then exited the residence with the shotgun.  The victim locked the front door of the residence in an attempt to keep Joy out.  Joy kicked in the front door, causing damage.

Joy was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and destruction of property.
