123rd Calvert County Fair Promises Fun for All

The first Calvert County fair was held in 1886 on the farm of Dr. Talbott in Smithville, what is now Dunkirk.  The first fair was primarily for horse racing, showing cattle and tobacco and providing men with a chance to visit one another. A lot has changed sine the 1886 event. There are loads of fun activities, sights and sounds throughout the weekend for everyone to enjoy.

On Wednesday, Sept. 30, the 123rd Calvert Fair begins when gates open at 4 p.m. and the opening ceremony is held at 4:45 p.m.

Here is a schedule of planned events during the event. There is sure to be some activity just perfect for everyone.

Thursday, Oct. 1:

Senior Citizens & Handicapped Day – 9 am to 2 pm
Free Admission & Free Lunch for Seniors & Handicapped Persons.
Fair Opens – 9 am
Calvert High School Chorus (Outdoor Stage) – 9:30 am
“Elvis” Jim Godbold (Main Hall) – 10 am
Carnival Open for Seniors & Handicapped Persons – 10 a.m. to 12 Noon
Lunch for Senior & Handicapped Persons (Free) – 12 Noon
Bingo (Main Hall) – 1:30 pm
Carnival Opens for Everyone – Wristlet Night – Discount with Coupon – 5 pm
