Mikulski Statement on Iran's Secret Nuclear Facility
MARYLAND - 9/26/2009
|
U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, issued this statement after it was revealed today that Iran was building a secret nuclear fuel plant: “The Iranian regime simply has no credibility and cannot be trusted. It continues to export terrorism, threaten Israel’s existence, and repress and abuse its own people. “Today’s revelation of Iran’s secret nuclear plant at Qom is the latest example of this regime’s web of deceit and deception regarding its nuclear ambitions and capabilities. The existence of this plant, and the regime’s failure to disclose its existence to international inspectors, shows a blatant contempt and disregard for the rules of the international community. It is a direct challenge to the international community, and an unacceptable threat to our allies in the Middle East. Sanctions must be imposed.” Senator Mikulski is a proud co-sponsor of the Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act, which provides President Obama with the explicit authority to target Iran’s dependence on imported gasoline and other refined petroleum products.
