Freon Leak in Local Grocery Store Causes Evacuation

At approximately, 9:56 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, Hazmat and units from Mechanicsville, Lexington Park, Ridge, Hollywood and Bay District responded to the Giant Grocery store at 45101 First Colony Way in California for a Freon leak.

Workers in the store broke the Freon line which serves the stores various refrigeration units. The Freon leak was such that the store quickly filled with the hazardous gas and had to be evacuated. Units were back in service by 10:30 p.m.
