At 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, people started arriving at the St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department for a concert with opening act Kellie Pickler and main performance by Alan Jackson.

All the volunteers in the yellow event staff shirt were there to help the people coming to see the show and to raise money for the St. Leonard VFD.

The show opened around 7:30 p.m. with Michaela Pitcher singing the star spangled banner. At about 7:45 p.m, Kellie Pickler started to perform for about the next hour.

Alan Jackson took the stage around 9 p.m. and for the next 90 minutes it was a standup crowd enjoying all the Alan Jackson songs.  The big screen and stage that were supplied by Alan Jackson for the show were great as it allowed a lot of entertaining video and close up shots of the performers.

It was estimated that this was the largest single concert gathering ever in Calvert County with a reported over 7,000 tickets sold.

All the profit raised is earmarked for the St. Leonard VFD for future shows and for the station’s all-volunteer fire and emergency services.

In order to be able to host the show, the St. Leonard VFD needed a backup crew to man the fire station for emergency calls. At the Alan Jackson concert that service was performed by the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department.
