Calvert Library is pleased to announce an exciting chartered bus trip to the National Book Festival as part of the “On the Go with Calvert Library” series. The 2009 National Book Festival, organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., between 7th and 14th streets from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (rain or shine). A nominal fee of $20, payable at any Calvert Library, will secure your roundtrip bus ticket. The bus will pick up paid passengers at 30 Duke Street, Prince Frederick at 8:30 a.m. The bus will return to Prince Frederick by 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the National Book Festival is to encourage Americans to develop a lifelong love of reading. The Festival, which is free and open to the public, is made possible by generous sponsors. A day at the Festival makes for a wonderful family outing. The Festival includes readings and book signings by dozens of award winning authors and illustrators of books for both adults and children. Authors such as James Patterson, George Pelecanos, Nikki Grimes, Sharon Creech, Daniel Silva, David Baldacci, Walter Mosley, Lisa Scottoline, Sue Monk Kidd, Judy Blume and many more will be in attendance. Additional activities include musical performances, storytelling, children’s book characters and exhibitions from reading promotion organizations and the Library of Congress. Limited food is also available. You may pack a picnic lunch. For more information about the National Book Festival and to see a complete list of authors, visit the website at http://www.loc.gov/bookfest/.
