Calvert Memorial Hospital’s The Center for Breast Care, the first of its kind in Southern Maryland, is located in the new Calvert Medical Arts Center in Prince Frederick and brings together an experienced team of breast health experts. A multidisciplinary team of physicians provides coordinated care from outreach and screening to diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.

This ‘team approach’ assures ongoing communication, collaboration and treatment planning between everyone involved in a patient’s care. Patients at The Center for Breast Care are provided with a patient “navigator” who makes the process easier by answering questions, scheduling appointments, advocating for patients and connecting them with resources that benefit their care.

The new facility utilizes some important new technology to ensure a level of treatment and care that, until now, was only available in other metropolitan areas. Current patients expressed relief at finally having a facility where they can be treated without hours of tedious and sometimes painful commuting.

While the center is equipped and ready to treat patients, more is needed to increase capacity and the level of care available to area patients. For that reason, The Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation’s annual Harvest Ball gala is dedicated to raising funds for additional equipment.

Funds raised at the gala will be used to purchase the sophisticated diagnostic technology that the center’s breast team needs to provide the best care possible. The center’s state-of-the-art imaging systems – digital mammography, stereotactic biopsy and breast MRI – gives center physicians access to the latest diagnostic equipment for breast cancer.

Dr. Sheldon Goldberg, breast surgeon, says, “When breast cancer is found early, the five-year survival rate is excellent. This new Breast Center will give physicians the best tools available at their fingertips to quickly diagnose and treat patients. Local residents won’t have to travel great distance to get great care.”

The twenty-first annual Chesapeake Harvest Ball will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Show Place Arena. This year’s black tie event, dubbed the ‘Galaxy Ball,’ promises to be “out of this world.” Special effects lighting will transport attendees to a different cosmos and there are other “extraterrestrial” highlights to make for a really fun night.

Nage, the event’s caterer, is an East Coast eatery from Washington, D.C. and Rehoboth Beach. The gourmet sit-down dinner will boast a “passion for food, pursuit of fun and a feast for the senses.”

During the event, Radio City, an eight- piece variety band that plays everything from Swing to Motown to the Top 40, complete with a three-piece horn section called the ‘Brass Edge’ will entertain guest throughout the evening.

In addition to dinner and dancing, there will be a spectacular silent auction where guests can bid on a variety of items from sports tickets to jewelry. For the first time, valet parking will be available.

Donors can blast off to sponsorship with six different packages which include reserved seating, special recognition and an exclusive pre-ball cocktail party at Show Place Arena. The ticket price is $475 per couple and $250 per person. Tickets can be purchased online at www.calverthospital.org or by calling the Foundation at (410) 535-8178 or (410) 414-4570. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted.
