On Sept. 12, tens of thousands of protesters; Democrats, Republicans, Independents and Libertarians, came to a massive rally in Washington, D.C. This rally was a march about big government, too much spending, the czars, moving toward socialism, health-care plan, term limits for Congress and other initiatives that demonstrators feel threaten the Constitution.
The protesters gathered at the west side of the Capital and brought with them, loud cheers that reverberated across the Mall. Many yellow ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ flags flapped in the breeze among the huge crowd. No official attendance estimate was available, but it appeared that tens of thousands were there with representatives from at least 45 states.
Also in attendance was a small group of Obama supporters, estimated at less than 50 watching nearby, but the protest continued uninterrupted. The rally is, as stated by more than one of the protestors, “the beginning of a growing movement across the country, which will continue to grow week-by-week through the 2010 election.”
There were all types of people at this event, including one union member – a stagehand and labor union worker from south Philadelphia. That protester carried a sign reading, “Preserve, Protect, Defend.”
“I am very concerned about the blatant disregard for the Constitution,” the man said. “It’s not just about health care. It’s about so much more than that.”
