Pedestrian Struck in Lexington Park

LEXINGTON PARK - 9/12/2009

At approximately 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10 a pedestrian attempting to cross South Shangri La Dr. in Lexington Park was struck by a vehicle near Mr. Tire. Units from Advanced Life Support, Lexington Park and Bay District responded to the scene.

The pedestrian was treated for minor injuries and signed a refusal for further treatment. Authorities determined that the vehicle was traveling legally and no charges were filed.

There are electronic walk/do not walk signs at that intersection, so my question is this:

Was he not in the crosswalk? If he was in the crosswalk, was the sign lit to "walk"? Or did the driver of the vehicle get fined?

I HATE news bits like this. Why not get SOME details?

Bad section
I almost hit somebody at that exact spot going home from work on Friday.

I had the green light and crossed Great Mills Road, then had stop for somebody who was crossing in between cars, not in the crosswalk. This has happened many times in the past.

That is normal for that intersection. Yes, their is an electronic controlled crosswalk. No, nobody uses it. They cut between the cars.

I know they do dart across GM road a LOT. I almost hit someone that was on their way into the Social Services office. The worst part about it was her kids (maybe 4 and 6 years old) were 10 steps BEHIND her. She was not holding their hands, nothing.

Article states, "Authorities determined that the vehicle was traveling legally and no charges were filed."

Seems the driver was obeying the law, plain and simple. That leaves only one conclusion...that the pedestrian wasn't.
