Dep. Roscoe Kreps attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was being operated in a negligent manner on September 4 at 5:21 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle turned right onto Md. Route 2 from northbound Md. Route 4 but did not stop.  Dep. Kreps continued to follow the vehicle, which at times sped up and then slowed to about 40 MPH.  After turning onto Dalrymple Road, the vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.  The vehicle continued on Dalrymple and turned onto Claggett Road, pulling into the driveway of a home.  The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward the wood line.  Dep. Kreps followed on foot and caught the suspect after he fell.

Dep. Kreps determined the driver, identified as William Anthony Plater, 50 of Sunderland, to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  A search incident to arrest revealed drug paraphernalia used to inhale crack cocaine.

Plater was arrested and charged with DUI and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, a glass smoking device.
