The Capital Design Advisory Committee of St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Historic St. Mary’s City will hold an open house in Glendening Hall Annex on Tuesday, Sept. 15 from 4-7 p.m. The CDA will present the proposed schematic design for the replacement of Anne Arundel Hall and the construction of the new Historic St. Mary’s City Maryland Heritage Interpretive Center (Visitor’s Center). In addition to updating the community on programs, scope, and siting reviewed during the CDA’s public presentations in August, new information will be provided on site plans and preliminary architectural designs. Feedback from the community is welcomed.

More information is available at
http://www.smcm.edu/facilities/capitalprojects/annearundel.html or by calling Judy Johnson at (240) 895-4412.

The two construction projects are currently in the planning phase. The Anne Arundel replacement will include modern archaeological curation facilities for Historic St. Mary’s City and space for the college’s academic programs in anthropology, museum studies, and language/cultures.  HSMC’s new interpretive center will replace the visitor’s center currently in the blue barns off Rosecroft Road. Construction on projects is to begin in 2012 or 2013.

A CDA follow-up public meeting will be held in the auditorium at HSMC on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 7-9:30 p.m.

These projects stem from 1997 legislation that formally affiliated the college and the historic city to foster joint educational and interpretive programming.  Co-locating academic programs related to the legacy of the historic site, archaeological research and curation, and the city’s primary interpretation center in one location will enhance educational programs and promote close interaction between the faculty and staff of the two institutions.  More information can be found at the following web sites:
