Local High Schools Honoring Heroes, Loved Ones of 9/11/2001

This year, Leonardtown High School, Great Mills High School and now Chopticon High School will be honoring the heroes and loved ones who lost their lives so tragically on 9/11/2001. Each St. Mary’s County high school will be hosting an own “11 Laps to Remember” Walk and are asking for our community to come out and support this event. The dates and times for each event are listed below: Great Mills High School- Friday, Sept 11th @ 4 p.m. at the Great Mills High School Track (Point of Contact: Tamara Dishman, 301-863-4031 or tcdishman@smcps.org) Leonardtown High School- Wednesday, Sept 9th from 5 to 7:30 pm at the Leonardtown High School Track (Point of Contact: Anne Wincelowicz, 301-475-0200 or amwincelowicz@smcps.org) Chopticon High School-Wednesday Sept 9th @ 3:30 pm at the Chopticon High School Track (Point of Contact: Gina Derenge, 301-475-0215 or grderenge@smcps.org) All are invited to wear patriotic clothing for this event. WTC and Pentagon replicas will display victims’ names and music will be provided. We would like to salute our servicemen and women so please contact us if you are military and planning to participate. Walkers will use the outside lanes; joggers will use the inside lanes. Cost is $5; all proceeds go to your local fire and rescue, so please join us in this family-friendly event!
