During the current economic downturn, organizations that are dedicated to helping others in need, find recruiting volunteers a difficult task. Compound that problem with deteriorating funding and many non-profits are finding day-to-day operations severely hampered.

In order to address the lack of volunteers, the St. Mary’s County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is hosting the first ever recruitment fair to help the community non-profit organizations and groups recruit volunteers.

The recruitment fair will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10 at the Lexington Park Library located at 21677 FDR Blvd, Lexington Park. Two sessions will be held: the first from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the second from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The event is also a way for citizens interested in the inner workings of non-profits to learn about the types of services these organizations provide and raise awareness of the resources offered to the community as a whole.

Additional information is available by calling the St. Mary’s County Department of Aging’s RSVP Project Office at (301) 737-5670, ext. 1653. For more information on volunteer opportunities, log on to the St. Mary’s County Government website at www.stmarysmd.com and click on Aging under the Citizen Services box.
